Blue screen (BSOD) in Windows — what does it mean?
By The workshop team at Datorhjälp Lerum, computer technicians & it specialists · Updated
- BSOD (Blue Screen of Death)
- Windows stop screen when the kernel cannot continue safely. Often shows a STOP code (e.g. MEMORY_MANAGEMENT, WHEA_UNCORRECTABLE_ERROR).
Common causes
New drivers (especially GPU), faulty RAM, overheating, corrupt system files or disk errors. Windows Update can also trigger BSOD if hardware is unstable.
First steps
Write down the STOP code. Boot safe mode, run memory test (mdsched) and check temperatures. If it repeats — book a diagnosis.
