- NVMe M.2
- Fast storage over PCIe in the motherboard M.2 slot. Up to 5–7 GB/s read vs ~500 MB/s on classic SATA SSD.
NVMe vs SATA SSD
SATA SSD tops out around 550 MB/s. NVMe over PCIe 4.0/5.0 is many times faster. For gaming you notice it most at load screens; any SSD feels fast vs HDD.
Upgrading
Check M.2 slot, PCIe generation and whether the slot shares bandwidth with SATA. We clone Windows to a new NVMe without reinstall when possible.
