Windows startup repair — when the PC won't boot

When Windows will not start normally many panic — but recovery options often exist before you lose files. Start with hardware checks (power, display, USB sticks) then use built-in startup repair.
Before you start repair
Disconnect USB sticks and external drives — they can disturb boot order.
If you hear clicking from the disk or get DISK ERROR — shut down and contact us for data recovery.
If you have important files without backup: ask for help before formatting.
Getting to Advanced startup
Hold Shift + click Restart in Windows — or interrupt boot twice in a row so recovery mode often triggers.
Choose Troubleshoot → Advanced options → Startup Repair.
If that fails: try System Restore to a point before the problem started.
chkdsk and bootrec
In Command Prompt (admin): chkdsk C: /f /r can find and repair filesystem errors (takes time).
For bootloader issues after disk cloning bootrec /fixmbr and bootrec /rebuildbcd may be needed — be careful if unsure.
