OneDrive sync and sharing — guide for Windows

OneDrive should keep files synced between PC, phone and web — but red crosses, endless loops and file locks are common. Often it is accounts, paths or full quota.
Right account and status
Click OneDrive icon in system tray — check you are signed in with the right work or personal account.

Update OneDrive app via Microsoft Store or oneDrive.com.
Common sync errors
Red icon: click for error message — often filename with invalid characters or path too long.
Pause sync, restart OneDrive (Quit from tray, start again).
Do not move the OneDrive folder manually in Explorer — use app settings.
Share files safely
Right-click in OneDrive on web or in Explorer → Share — choose read or edit.
For business: ask admin for permission if sharing is blocked by policy.
Use sharing links with expiry for sensitive documents.
