Fix WiFi dead zones in your home

WiFi does not reach everywhere in Swedish timber houses and concrete villas — especially upstairs or in the garage. Before buying expensive gear: optimise router placement and channels. Then mesh or access point if needed.
Router placement
Place the router centrally and high — not in a cupboard, basement or behind the TV.
Antennas straight up for better wave spread in multi-storey homes.
Keep router away from microwave, baby monitor and thick concrete walls if possible.
2.4 GHz vs 5 GHz
5 GHz is faster but shorter range — good on the same floor near the router.
2.4 GHz penetrates walls better — use for distant dead zones if speed is enough.
Modern routers have band steering — let clients choose automatically if stable.
Repeater vs mesh
Cheap repeaters often halve speed — mesh systems (e.g. ASUS ZenWiFi, TP-Link Deco) are better for whole house.
Best solution: run cable to access point on second floor — we install in Lerum and surrounding area.
