Scanner not working — troubleshooting on printer and Mac/Windows

MFP printers often use separate scan software — printing can work while scanning does not. The issue is usually driver, wrong app or network sharing. Troubleshooting on Windows and Mac.
Windows — scan to PDF or email
Use Windows Scan or manufacturer app — not the print queue alone.
Settings → Printers → Manage → run printer test.
If WIA is missing: reinstall full driver package from manufacturer.
Mac — Preview and Image Capture
Preview → File → Import from Scanner.
Or Image Capture in Applications → Utilities.
If missing: install Epson Scan, HP Easy Scan or equivalent.
